The More Things Change...

In shoe fashion it seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Over the past few years a handful of "love-it-or-hate-it" staple brands have emerged, and while I fully support some of these brands' new offerings, others are downright questionable. Join me as I reflect on a couple of these trends!

Ugg Australia

Uggs have been a staple amongst all ages for many since the mid-2000's. Originally women were seen sporting either the traditional tall or short style; however, when I was shopping in the Nordstrom shoe section yesterday, I noticed a tacky new development.

Jennifer Aniston rocks her chestnut Uggs over tucked dark jeans. Love!

Amid the classic Ugg shades of sand, chestnut, chocolate, black, and grey, some newer, flashier boots caught my eye...

These boots are simply not appropriate for anybody over the age of twelve.

While I've always been a fan of Uggs and enjoy some of the brand's deviations from the traditional formula (see the Cardy and Bailey button styles), I hope all fashion enthusiasts can agree that these sequin-covered Uggs have clearly crossed the line from trendy to trashy.

Sperry Top-sider

These typically understated boat shoes came into fashion well after Uggs, but hey, at least you can wear these with shorts and not look ridiculous. The brand is recognized for their clean-cut loafer styles in various leather and suede hues.

Blake Lively rocks the perfect summer look on set with her navy Sperrys and white skinny jeans.

Although sequined Sperrys have emerged over the past year or so, what really caught my eye were their new Seabourn wedges. Pairing the shoe's classic loafer look with the resurgence in wedge shoe popularity, the result was a dressed-up, mature look suited for cooler temperatures.

The Seabourn wedges are stylish, but with class...An innovation we can all live with!

The right shoe can completely change the look of any outfit, and when I find a shoe I love, I stick with the brand and/or the style for years to come. That's why I celebrate new twists on my classic favorites- they allow me to keep buying my signature looks without judgmental "You bought the same shoe again?!" looks and comments from my friends and family. What're your staple brands?

XO,
Em
